Section sign (§) and pilcrow (¶): copy and paste
The section sign (§) refers to a numbered section of a law, contract or document: § 12, §§ 3–5 for a range. The pilcrow (¶) marks a paragraph and is what word processors show when you reveal formatting.
Put a space between § and the number (§ 230). Double it for multiple sections (§§). In German and some other legal traditions § is the standard way to cite statutes.
