Quotation marks (“ ” ‘ ’ « »): copy and paste
Curly (“smart”) quotation marks are the typographically correct opening and closing quotes. Straight quotes (" and ') are typewriter leftovers that most word processors convert automatically, while code editors, forms and some chat apps do not.
Use “ ” for quotations and ‘ ’ for quotes inside quotes in US English; British style often reverses them. Guillemets « » are the standard quotes in French, Spanish, Russian and many other languages; low-high „ “ quotes are used in German, Czech and Polish.
