Division symbol (÷): copy and paste
The division sign (÷), the obelus, means “divided by”: 12 ÷ 3 = 4. It is common in schoolbooks and calculators; higher math and all programming languages use a slash (/) or a fraction bar instead.
Put spaces around it in running text. Spreadsheets and code will not accept ÷; type / there. For a typeset fraction use the fraction slash ⁄ (U+2044), which many fonts turn 1⁄2 into a proper fraction.
